A Life Built on Design, Craft, and Vision

Richard Brookfield isn’t just an architect—he’s a builder, a designer, and a problem-solver who has spent his entire life immersed in the world of construction and architecture. Raised in Ormond Beach, Florida, Richard began his career hands-on—digging footings and prepping concrete slabs in the summer heat as a teenager. His early experiences on job sites, framing homes and setting trusses, laid the groundwork for a career that bridges practical construction knowledge with inspired architectural design.

That firsthand experience continues to inform every project he takes on. Unlike many in the field, Richard has worked shoulder-to-shoulder with journeymen and carpenters, gaining insights that can’t be taught in a classroom.

“Working out in the field is something every architect should do. It gives you a true understanding of materials, methods, and the people who make it all happen.”

Key Benefits of Working with Richard Brookfield, LLC

Richard’s formal architectural journey began after earning his Bachelor of Design from the University of Florida in 1986. He interned at an architecture firm in Ormond Beach that specialized in public school design, while simultaneously designing residential homes on his own in the evenings.

Driven by a deep passion for design, Richard returned to UF in 1990, earning his Master of Architecture degree two years later. During that time, he also worked in Orlando and completed his architectural internship with a firm focused on educational facilities. By 1995, he passed the architecture licensing exam and officially became a licensed architect in the state of Florida.

That same year, he founded Richard Brookfield, LLC and has proudly practiced independently in Ormond Beach ever since.

An Architect Who’s Seen It All—and Still Loves the Work

In over 30 years of practice, Richard has designed an incredibly diverse range of projects—from residential renovations to large-scale commercial buildings. No two projects are alike, and that’s exactly what keeps the work interesting.

With decades of evolution in tools and technology—from hand-drawn pencil sketches to modern 3D CAD presentations—Richard brings both old-school discipline and cutting-edge visualization to every design.

“I began with pencil drawings, then ink, and now I create 3D presentations in CAD. It's been a fascinating journey.”

What Defines a Successful Client?

Through years of experience, Richard has observed that the most successful architectural projects share one thing in common: engaged, motivated clients.

“Whether it’s a home or a commercial building, the client must be curious, aggressive, and willing to dive into the complexity of the process. That mindset drives great outcomes.”
